SSE announce latest domestic price increases

From october SSE domestic prices are rising on average by 9%.
SSE announced that the price hikes were 'unavoidable'. They blame the increases on wholesale price and the rising cost of transporting energy as well as the extra payments to the government for schemes such as the Carbon Emissions Reduction Target (CERT), the Warm Homes Discount and helping vuneranle customers.
These increases follow a pledge made by SSE last summer that they would refrain from any price hikes for as long as possible.
Ian Marchant, SSE Cheif Executive said: "Unfortunately, the increases in costs that we have seen since making this pledge can no longer be absorbed and mean that we are unable to keep prices at their current levels beyond this autumn.” (http://www.energylivenews.com, 22/08/2012)
